FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions about SH SulphPur®

SH SulphPur® uses special microorganisms that biologically convert hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) into elemental sulfur. This process takes place in a bio-trickling filter reactor, where the gas is passed through packing material colonized by microorganisms. The sulfur is then deposited as a solid byproduct, which can be easily disposed of or further utilized.

The system requires only a small amount of oxygen as it is based on a highly optimized biological process. The oxygen demand is approximately 0.2 to 0.7% (depending on the H2S content) of the gas volume, which is significantly lower than conventional desulfurization processes. This not only reduces operating costs but also the effort required for oxygen supply.

SH SulphPur® is designed for medium to high H₂S concentrations. It can handle loads of up to 11,000 ppm (parts per million), making it ideal for biogas plants with particularly high requirements for gas quality.

Maintenance effort for the SulphPur® system is low. Every 6 to 12 months (depending on the H2S content), a reactor and system maintenance takes place. Optionally, a maintenance contract from SH SULPHTEC can be arranged.
